2022 GEMSA AWard Nominations CLOSED

The deadline for submission of nominations is NOVEMBER 30, 2022 at 5 pm.  
This is a firm deadline and no nominations will be accepted after this date.  If you have any questions contact GEMSA Communications Specialist Mary Napier.

Many of the awards require detailed information and a picture of the nominee.  Start gathering information for those EMS professionals who you would like to see recognized and nominate them today!  

The awards reception will take place in March 2023. Watch for more details.

  • Dr. Joe Simon Pediatric Award of Excellence
    This award will be presented to the Emergency Medical Service provider(s) recognized for reducing the morbidity or mortality of a pediatric patient in the prehospital setting.

  • Joe Lane Cox Excellence in EMS Award
    The purpose of the Joe Lane Cox Excellence in EMS Award is to recognize a worthy individual who is not employed in EMS, but has, like Joe Lane Cox, unselfishly donated their time and efforts to continue the improvement of EMS in Georgia’s EMS Regions as well as at the state and/or national levels.

  • Mary Beth Bowns Excellence in Trauma Care Award
    The purpose of the Mary Beth Bowns Excellence in Trauma Care Award is to reward an individual or organization in the State of Georgia for their outstanding delivery of care to a critically injured patient(s). 

  • Dr. J. Jeffrey Marshall Excellence in Emergency Cardiac Care Award
    The purpose of the Dr. J. Jeffrey Marshall Excellence in Emergency Cardiac Care Award is to reward an individual or organization in the State of Georgia for their excellence in emergency cardiac care.

  • Dr. Zeb L. Burrell, Jr. Distinguished Service Award
    The purpose of the Dr. Zeb L. Burrell, Jr. Distinguished Service Award is to reward an individual or organization in the State of Georgia for their outstanding contribution to the development and/or enhancement of the delivery of pre-hospital emergency medical care. 

  • Dr. John B. O’Neal, III EMS Pioneer Award
    The purpose of the Dr. John B. O'Neal, III Emergency Medical Services Pioneer Award is to recognize and reward an individual in Georgia for his/her unselfish contributions to the conception and development of Georgia's Emergency Medical Service during the early 1970s and for his/her continued support for the enhancement of the delivery of pre-hospital emergency medical care to the citizens of Georgia.

  • Tim Peebles Champion of Children Excellence and Advocacy Award
    The Region II EMS-C committee accepts statewide nominations for the Tim Peebles Champion of Children Excellence and Advocacy Award, sponsored by Air Life Georgia. This award is dedicated to the memory of Captain Tim Peebles, who was a career long advocate for providing quality pre-hospital care for all, and more especially for preventing injury and illness in children. This award will be presented to a group or individual who through their ideas, actions, and goals to carry on and reinforce the high benchmarks established by Captain Peebles. 

  • Charles B. Gillespie, MD, Distinguished Georgia E.M.S. Medical Director Award
    This award is to be presented to a physician who has served consistently as an Emergency Medical Service Medical Director in a single Georgia Region or community for no less than 5 years and meets other criteria.

  • Georgia EMS Director of the Year Award
    This award is presented to a current Georgia EMS Director who has contributed significantly to EMS at the community, regional, and/or state level. 

  • Georgia EMS Educator of the Year Award
    This award is presented to an EMS Educator that has contributed significantly to EMS education at the community, regional, and/or state level. 

  • Georgia EMT of the Year Award
    This award is presented to a currently licensed Georgia EMT-B, EMT-I, AEMT or CT who has contributed significantly to EMS at the community, regional, and/or state level.   The nominee should demonstrate excellence in the performance of emergency medical services, with their primary role being that of prehospital patient care. 

  • Georgia Paramedic of the Year Award
    This award is presented to a currently licensed Georgia Paramedic who has contributed significantly to EMS at the community, regional, and/or state level.  The nominee should demonstrate excellence in the performance of emergency medical services, with their primary role being that of prehospital patient care.

  • Georgia Emergency Medical Service of the Year Award
    This award is presented to a currently licensed Georgia Emergency Medical Service, which exemplifies outstanding professionalism on the local, regional, and state levels, as well as service to the community it serves. 

The mission of the Georgia Emergency Medical Services Association is to advocate for the emergency medical provider, develop educational programs, liaison activities, provider benefit programs, and improvements to the Emergency Medical Service System in Georgia.
