The purpose of the Joe Lane Cox Excellence in EMS Award is to recognize a worthy individual who is not employed in EMS, but has, like Mr. Cox, unselfishly donated their time and efforts to continue the improvement of Emergency Medical Services and patient care in Georgia’s EMS Regions as well as at the state and/or national levels. A lifelong servant, Mr. Cox served as Probate Judge and then served for two terms as the sole commissioner for Dawson County during which time he made great advancements in EMS. He was chairman of the Region 2 EMS Advisory Council for many years and was involved in many other worthy groups and organizations. Later in life, Cox served as Mayor of Dawsonville for three terms until his passing in 2012.
CRITERIA FOR CONSIDERATION
- unselfishly donated their time and efforts to continue the improvement of EMS in Georgia’s EMS Regions as well as at the state and/or national levels
- nominee’s efforts or involvement to strengthen public awareness and support of EMS
