The purpose of the Joe Lane Cox Excellence in EMS Award is to recognize a worthy individual who is not employed in EMS, but has, like Mr. Cox, unselfishly donated their time and efforts to continue the improvement of Emergency Medical Services and patient care in Georgia’s EMS Regions as well as at the state and/or national levels. A lifelong servant, Mr. Cox served as Probate Judge and then served for two terms as the sole commissioner for Dawson County during which time he made great advancements in EMS.
